Banfield Pet Hospital recently analyzed its electronic veterinary health records and released a report that revealed a rise in pet obesity over the last decade, with a 114% increase in cats diagnosed as overweight or obese. Dog obesity also rose 108% during the same timeframe.

Banfield also surveyed 1,000 owners of overweight or obese pets and discovered:

93% said they faced hurdles in maintaining a healthy weight for their pet

76% couldn’t identify at least one risk of pet obesity

61% didn’t realize obesity carries an increased risk of cancer

41% delayed a visit to the vet to avoid talking about their pet’s weight
